The dichotomy of control is a shipping strategy. Focus on inputs you own; release outcomes you do not.
The dichotomy of control as a shipping strategy
Marcus Aurelius wrote to steady himself, not to publish. Founders can borrow the same move: separate what you control from what you don't, then act only on the former.
What you control
Effort and quality
The hours you put in and the standard you hold them to.
Your response
Markets, competitors, and luck will do what they do. Your reaction is yours.
What you don't
Timing, macro conditions, and how customers feel on a given Tuesday. Planning for them is wise; depending on them is fragile.
Practicing the pause
Between stimulus and response there is a gap. Widening that gap is most of the discipline.
